The Island at Winter Harbor
The Beach House was originally built in 1933 as a small 8 room hotel on a thin strip of land in Mathews County, Virginia. For decades, it served vacationers and patrons from the many steamboats that plied the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. In the mid 20th century, during a strong Nor’Easter, the upper part of the peninsula was breached by the storm and The Island at Winter Harbor was born. This exceptional property is now available to you and your family. A limited number of weeks are available.
The simple and rustic “lowcountry” style home has been updated with heat and air conditioning and it’s eight bedrooms, and two baths can accommodate up to 16 people. A screen porch sits on the front of the house to enjoy the sunrise on the Chesapeake Bay. There is a large gathering room with several seating areas and dining room tables and there is a full kitchen with all amenities except a dishwasher. There is no washer/dryer. No more than 16 guests permitted.
We have vehicle parking as well as complimentary boat parking (up to one boat) available at the marina. Our 19' skiff is available for rent to travel to and from the Beach House. We also offer a taxi service for those uncomfortable operating a boat. The boat ramp fee is waived (up to one boat) for those who wish to bring their own boat. Keep in mind the channel is small, so boats must be small in size. Travel can sometimes be limited due to the tides. Tide charts are available online. Weather can also be a factor. No more than 16 guests are permitted.
